Sounds of Faith Series Kickoff with A Tribute to Muslim Blues, Jazz, and blues artists

We are thrilled to reflect on the success of our recent teachers’ training workshop, where we had the privilege of hosting dedicated educators from the Jackson Public Schools. The workshop provided IMMC with a dynamic opportunity to highlight the Legacy of Timbuktu Wonders of the Written Word Exhibit, which is the cornerstone of IMMC’s Human Dignity Curriculum. Educating our youth of the rich heritage and literate culture of West Africa provides opportunities to introduce new strategies for teaching African and African American History to all students, and most importantly to African American Students.

The diverse range of educational resources available at IMMC includes the Human Dignity Curriculum, lesson plans, multimedia materials and guided tours. They are all designed to empower teachers with valuable resources and insights, enrich their ability to integrate museum experiences into the history and world civilization curriculum and inspire their students.

Throughout the training, participants had exclusive access to our museum’s collections, exhibitions, and educational spaces.

Performances include the vivacious musical duo Hoosein-McLean (Nola) with  Mehnaz Hoosein on vocals  and Andrew McLean playing the guitar, sarode, and tabla. The duo performed new and old compositions from both the sacred soundscapes of India and the currents of the Gulf-South – all fresh and playful.

Masakowski-Moushabeck is another dynamic musical duo that seamlessly blends their diverse backgrounds and influences, which span across genres such as jazz, folk, Arabic and Eastern European music to create a unique and captivating sound with a fresh and innovative approach.

Amir Tubad Gray- the genre-defying sensation and phenomenal vocalist, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, has been revolutionizing the music scene with his unique fusion of contemporary jazz, hip-hop, and soul. Tubad’s distinctive sound and spellbinding performances captivated the audiences.

Stay tuned for the next concert and experience how spiritual Islam profoundly influenced music with IMMC, as we continue with more future performances with the Sound of Faith Series.
